Juniper Research’s latest report focuses on the e-reading market, claiming that revenues from sales of e-books delivered to e-readers, tablets and smartphones will reach $3.2 billion this year, and rise to $9.7 billion in 2016. It highlights tablets as a key factor in this growth, predicting that they’ll account for nearly 30% of all e-book downloads by 2016. The report also claims that the EPUB3 standard will create new markets for ‘rich media’ e-books on dedicated e-readers, while forecasting healthy revenues for subscription-based pricing in the corporate and educational e-books markets. Note, this is all e-books – as far as we can tell, it doesn’t include revenues from book-apps.
